- Fatigue
- Headache
- Nausea
- Rash occurring three to four days after onset of the fever
- Severe joint and bone pain
- Sudden high fever (higher than 101 degrees Fahrenheit, up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit)
- Vomiting
In some cases, dengue fever can progress into a serious complication called dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can lead to a life-threatening complication called dengue shock syndrome. If not treated quickly with intensive life-saving measures, dengue shock syndrome can be fatal. Seek immediate medical care (call 911) if you, or someone you are with, have symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome.
Symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever include:
- Bleeding gums
- Bleeding under the skin and purple bruises
- Nosebleeds
- Symptoms of dengue shock syndrome include:
- Change in level of consciousness or alertness, such as passing out or unresponsiveness
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Shock
- Uncontrolled bleeding and hemorrhage
