Defining Characteristics:
  • Fever
  • The appearance of redness
  • Chills
  • Tachycardia

Expected Results:
  • Showed no signs of increased body temperature
  • No shivering
  • Normal pulse

Nursing Intervention for Increased Body Temperature:
  • Observation of body temperature (4 hours)
  • Monitor skin color
  • Perform cooling action as needed
  • Give medications as indicated: antipyretic
  • Keep an eye on blood cultures and sputum cultures, then monitor the results every day.
